Types of Positions at Camp:
Camp Counselors
Counselors are the heart of camp. As a counselor, your primary job is to live with and care for campers so they have a successful, amazing summer. Counselors make the memories that keep campers coming back year after year, from birthday celebrations to nighttime rituals to inside jokes. They turn camp into a home!
Counselors work all over camp in positions that align with their strengths and professional goals, from building their interpersonal and/or childcare skills, improving their teaching skills, being on our inclusion team and supporting our campers with special/identified needs, leading camp in Jewish ritual and song, assisting professional instructors in specialty areas and majors, creating and running engaging staff programming, working on the communication or programming logistics team, creating and leading activities throughout the day at camp, and more!
Many of our counselors lead electives called chugim (pronounced hoo-geem) and most assist in our Majors. As a chug (pronounced hoo-g) leader or major specialist, you'd get to spend your summer sharing your deep passions for STEM and/or the Creative Arts (or STEM/Creative Arts-adjacent hobbies) with campers in unique and engaging ways! Teaching a chug isn't required to be a counselor at Sci-Tech & Arts, but we encourage you to share your hobbies and passions with our camp community!
Looking for ideas for an elective to teach? Check out some chugim from previous years at the bottom of our Programs page. Have a passion for something you want to teach as an elective that would be a smash hit at camp? Let us know on your application and during your interview!
Unit Head
Our unit heads help our counselors grow while ensuring campers receive the highest-quality care! Unit Heads supervise 15-20 counselors in a unit and work closely with the community care team to support and guide campers and staff. The Unit Head works to build community at camp, both among campers and among staff, and holds campers and staff accountable to our community's values and mission. They play an active role in camp life with campers and staff. They can be found doing everything from helping with Nikayon (daily cleanup) to supporting a camper or staff member through a challenging moment at camp, to actively participating in and planning evening programs and camp activities related to their camper or staff unit.
Instructors
Sci-Tech & Arts is looking for talented and enthusiastic individuals passionate about STEM or Creative Arts and education to serve as Instructors for our core Majors! If you want to spend the summer working with inquisitive, creative children in an exciting environment, this is the experience for you! Instructors will teach campers aged 9-17 with beginning-to-intermediate knowledge of the subject they're learning at camp. Instructors should have experience working in the field or at least a bachelor’s degree in Education or a field relevant to the major they're teaching. Ideally, they have experience teaching or working with children or in an educational environment (informal or formal). Curriculum writing experience is preferred but not required, as we'll provide mentorship from education professionals every step of the way.
Check out our Majors to learn more about what you could teach this summer!
Jewish Life
JEWISH LIFE LEADERSHIP
Jewish Life leadership team members coordinate all Jewish Life at camp, especially musical and ritual moments, in partnership with faculty and the Head Songleader. Shabbat services (which involve heavy camper participation and creativity), B Mitzvah tutoring, daily rituals (like Boker Big Bang and Siyyum), and integrating Jewish education into specialty areas and chugim (electives) are just a few of the ways our Jewish Life leadership team members bring RUACH (spirit) to Jewish Learning at Sci-Tech & Arts.
HEAD SONGLEADER
The Head Songleader is a dynamic, high-energy leader who fosters community, tradition, and camp spirit through interactive music and singing programs. This role involves planning and directing all large-group song sessions, coordinating music for special camp rituals, and coaching and/or supervising younger or less experienced songleaders in partnership with other Jewish Life leadership team members and visiting faculty.
Songleaders (outside of the Head Songleader) have additional responsibilities at camp beyond songleading. Check out the counselor description for more info!

The ideal candidate is highly motivated, hardworking, and committed to health and wellness in a fast-paced, immersive summer camp environment. Health Center Staff care for sick or injured campers, including dispensing medication and responding to emergencies while following all health standards and local operating procedures. They communicate daily with camper parents and provide a warm, supportive presence for families who entrust their campers to our care throughout the summer.
CAMP HEALTH DIRECTOR

From creating the nursing schedule to coordinating with our pharmacy partner and families to make sure all medications arrive at camp, the Camp Health Director is a vocal, visible presence in the camp community! They also ensure parents and families back home receive prompt, accurate communication about campers' care and well-being.

The Camp Health Specialist (also known as the Camp Wellness Director) partners with the Camp Health Director to make health and well-being a community project! From helping medical professionals ensure all campers receive the correct medication at the right time to picking up prescriptions for staff and campers, the camp health specialist should keep an eye on helping our community stay health- and wellness-minded. The Logistics Director works closely with the Program Director to ensure camp runs smoothly, focusing on logistics, operations, and supplies. This includes ordering and obtaining supplies, tracking receipts and purchases to keep the camp on budget, installing equipment in dorms and classrooms, and setting up programs before campers and staff arrive. Some might say they are the glue that holds camp together!
DRIVER
Drivers at camp keep the proverbial wheels on the bus! From running out to buy last-minute supplies to taking staff and campers to medical or travel appointments, the camp driver ensures everyone gets where they need to go, with what they need, when they need it! They must also maintain camp vehicles, keeping them clean, safe, and up to Pennsylvania and American Camp Association standards. Drivers must have an active driver's license, a good driving record, and sound judgment regarding health and safety, especially on the road. When not driving, the camp driver may help the Program and Logistics team in other important ways!
Communications & Marketing
COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR
Our Communications Director is a creative, organized person who knows the ins and outs of social media, our communication platforms, and communications. Photographs are the primary way our families back home see how much fun their campers are having. The photographer's job is to ensure that every camper and every moment at camp is documented and archived correctly so we can tell the story of camp both during the summer and for years after! Photographers are typically counselors who live on the hall with campers.
VIDEOGRAPHER
Videographers, like the photographer, document camp activities in digital film for current marketing, future marketing, and for our parents and community back home! They will film, edit, and produce long-form projects and short highlight videos every session for short-term use and long-term marketing, based on communication needs for the upcoming year. Video is the medium of the 21st century; as a 21st-century STEM and Creative Arts camp, we want to tell our story in the most beautiful and engaging ways!
